The Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce of Florida and Centro Cultural Brasil-USA cordially invite you and all members to our upcoming event featuring:
Luís Fernando Veríssimo
Luís Fernando Veríssimo, one of Brazil's most famous writers was born in Porto Alegre, Brazil on September 26, 1936. Veríssimo is the son of Brazilian writer Erico Veríssimo and lived with his father in the United States during his childhood.
Before becoming a writer, Veríssimo tried his hand at many things. Realizing that the only thing he hadn't tried was writing, he decided to try writing after receiving an invitation - at the age of 31 - from Jornal Zero Hora, Porto Alegre.
Veríssimo's books combine humor with satire and are a delight to read. Veríssimo is a great fan of jazz, and plays saxophone in a band called Jazz 6. Like many Brazilian intellectuals, he enjoys the culture of Rio de Janeiro. Veríssimo is a critic of right-wing politicians. Fond of football, and a famous Sport Club Internacional supporter, he has written many texts about his passion for football. Veríssimo is married and has three children.
